"I now work with amazing clients and am forever grateful for who is in my life today and the opportunities that have made themselves available. It all started in 2003 for me, here we are 15 years later. I just want to help people."
My guest this week is Jordan Grossman, my current manager, and while I have only worked with him for a short time, I can already say that I have never been more excited and motivated to create content! In this episode of my podcast, Project Freelance, Jordan and I discuss the idea that failure can be a good, or even life changing thing. No matter what peril you face, you have to learn how to become comfortable failing. You can't grow if you don't fail. Failure teaches you what not to fuck up on next time. Love failure, and if you don't, go fail some more!
Jordan Grossman was born and raised in the Music Industry by a professional Touring Bass player. His father played with legends such as Three Dog Dog Night, Rick Springfield (Bass Player in “Jessie’s Girl Music Video”), Dave Mason, Chuck Negron in Early 90’s (Former Lead Singer Of Three Dog Night) and many others. His mother was a nurse at UCLA in the OBGYN Department for over 30 years work side by side with World Renounced Dr. Tabish. Jordan started playing drums when he was 3 years old. He was taught to play drums by Chet McCracken (Doobie Brothers Drummer & many others). Chet gave him his first pair of drum sticks (Regal Tip), cymbals, and Red Remo Drum Kit. Fast forward a little to when he began playing music with a girl named Allison Kaplan in 2003, who is now a well respected Singer/Songwriter.
The band that Jordan started was absolutely incredible! The members had met while playing worship Music at Calvary Community Church, in Westlake Village, CA. Jordan wanted to start playing shows in Hollywood, CA to become heard and live the Rock n Roll dream. He asked his father, Richard Grossman, to help him get into venues and help me out with his connections and what not, to which his father replied, “No, pick up the phone and figure it out.” So that is exactly what he did. At 13 years old Jordan booked his first gig at The Knitting Factory in Hollywood, CA & his second gig at The Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood, CA with Talent buyer at the time “Celina Denkins.” Since he was a minor, one of his parents would go down to these venues and sign the contracts and pick up our pre sale tickets. From there he not only took on the position of drummer, but also took on the management side of the music business, in order to grow his band as much as possible.
July 9, 2012, Jordan was involved in a near fatal car accident, leaving him with a broken spine, which resulted in 2 Major Spine Surgeries (L5-S1 Fusion), external compound fractures on the left arm, which required three seperate surgeries, over 20 screws and 2 plates put in the radius and Ulna. His was broken and hanging off of his face, broken ribs, shattered teeth, brain swelling, medically induced into a coma. Himself and the driver of the vehicle were level 1 trauma’s & airlifted to Providence Holy Cross Trauma center in Santa Clarita, CA from the Little League baseball field in Old Agoura, CA off the 101 Freeway. This completely changed his view on the world and inspired him and motivated him to not listen to the doctors' "you'll never walk again," bullshit. In 2014 at the age of 24 he became a dad to the most beautiful girl in the world! She is 3 now and will be 4 at the end of October. She has two very proud parents! Jordan ended up working for a Production company for 5 years, working his ass off to hopefully one day be recognized for his potential. He was promoted within to Production Manager. When his daughter was born in 2014 he decided to completely fully indulge into becoming a Manager and opened up his current business, 1 On 1 Music Group. He was a brand new Dad, received a promotion to full blown Production Manager, and decided to start his own company, working close to 100 hours a week. Since the beginning of 2014 he has been %110 committed to being the best Manager that he can be. He considers himself a student to life and feels that he has much more to learn. He fails daily but learns from those failures and turns them into successes.
